At the end of a music festival in Lincoln Cathedral in 2004, I found a ‘missing passenger’ still sitting on the choral risers in the now-empty cathedral. I encouraged her to join her group already on the bus, and she looked at me with misty eyes and said, “Do I really have to leave? Can I somehow bottle what happened here tonight and take it with me?” My own spine tingling told me that we had really affected her life and many others that evening

Following a concert by a youth orchestra from Kansas City at the American Cemetery in Normandy (the 50th Anniversary in 1994), students left their seats and embraced WWII veterans who were walking amongst the 8,000+ crosses to identify their fallen comrades or family. No names were exchanged, just embraces and heartfelt “thank you for what you did for our country.”
